Sand Doombs

So we took our very first, all by ourselves, family camp out last weekend.  We decided that the Bruneau Sand Dunes would make the perfect outing for our maiden voyage.  I called and made a reservation earlier in the week, and the kids were over the moon excited to sleep in sleeping bags and a tent.

The kids jumped out of the car and up they went as soon as we got there. We climbed the dunes until everyone was tired and sandy,  as we watched the sun set over the dunes.
Soon it was time to head back to camp.

The camp grounds are really nice with shelters around the picnic tables and big grassy lawns to pitch our tent on. We made it really simple, I mean simple, we bought hamburgers on our way out of town, and ate donuts and bananas for breakfast. No cooking required.  We pitched our tent and built a fire for roasting marshmellows before we called it a night.

Of course, the highlight is the tent, and all the kids were in and out, in and out a dozen times, and were even anxious to brush their teeth and climb into bed.

Everyone slept in really late in the warm morning tent, and were more than anxious to get back to the 'doombs' as Gage would say.

The morning sun was really warm, and as we began to climb the sand was getting hotter and hotter.  Once we got to the top, we discovered that the other side was much cooler, and the kids sledded, and jumped with dad, flew the kite and tried to dig to China.  Getting back down was the hard part since now the sand is REALLY hot, so dad had to load everyone up in the sled and hustle it down to cooler sand.

All in all the kids tell us it was the best camping trip of their whole lives, they may be exaggerating a bit, but it was fun for all.  We feel prepped for Redfish, and can't wait to do it again.

So happy to hear it all turned out well. And, I'm all about the "no work" camping trip. Otherwise, it's no vacation. Huh. The kids look precious sleeping in the tent. I am sucker for sleeping baby pictures.

Great action shot of Dax! And smartie to bring a sled!
